HOLLYWOOD, CA (FOX44) – Johnny Depp will compete with "The Avengers" at this weekend's box office. But for those looking to enjoy an Indie flick, several options are available in limited release.
With "The Avengers" certain to stay in the number one box-office spot, there is only one new film in wide release this weekend along with several Indies in limited release. Johnny Depp reteams with director Tim Burton in a big screen adaptation of the 1960's cult TV classic "Dark Shadows". Depp plays a vampire who escapes after 200-years underground and is determined to restore his family's name.
Depp says: "It sort of takes what the series was and heightening the universe a little bit."
For Independent movie fans, Judi Dench headlines the light comedy "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", following a group of British retirees who decide to spend their golden years in India. "Hick" is a coming-of-age drama about a Nebraska teen who runs away to the bright lights of Las Vegas. The movie co-stars "Dark Shadows", Chloe Grace Moretz.
Doing their own undercover investigation, a couple tries to expose an underground cult in the suspense drama "Sound of My Voice". "First Position" is a new documentary that follows 6-young dancers as they prepare for the world's most prestigious ballet competition.
Comedian Bobcat Goldthwait goes behind the camera to direct and write "God Bless America", a satirical drama about a guy who loses everything and decides to rid his world of losers. And Eva Mendez headlines "Girl in Progress, playing the single mother of a teenage daughter.
