Tigers survive elimination game
Cassie Trosclair notched a 3-for-3 performance and added a program NCAA single-game mark with four stolen bases as the No. 20 LSU softball team exploded for an eight-run sixth inning en route to a 10-0 six inning triumph over Sacred Heart Saturday in an elimination contest at the Aggie Softball Complex on the Texas A&M campus.
The Tigers (39-17) advance to face Syracuse (45-12) in another elimination tilt with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. CT.
Ahead 2-0 in the sixth inning, Lauren Houston was hit-by- a-pitch to spark the eight-run frame. Trosclair’s third hit of the day placed runners on the corners before Alex Boulet slapped a RBI single to left field.
The Tigers executed a double steal to perfection to extend their lead to 4-0. Juliana Santos tacked on a RBI on a fielder’s choice, while Anissa Young and Ashley Langoni cranked consecutive RBI singles to make it 7-0.
Tammy Wray capped the frame and belted a 1-0 offering to straight-away centerfield for a three-run blast for the 10-0 triumph.
Brittany Mack fired five innings of two-hit ball and powered home 10 strikeouts against zero walks to improve to 19-6 on the season. Meghan Patterson tossed a 1-2-3 sixth inning to secure the 10-0 win.
With runners on second and third base with two outs during the second inning, Simone Heyward legged out an infield single. An errant throw by Sacred Heart pitcher Jen Russell vaulted the Tigers to a 2-0 advantage.
Heyward and Langoni joined Trosclair with multi-hit performances as LSU pounded out 12 hits for the game.
