BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) — The retirement plan for state workers will be getting another look by state lawmakers if Governor Bobby Jindal gets his way.
Jindal unveiling a new proposal today.
Jindal is proposing a list of pension changes that would shrink retirement benefits for thousands of current state workers, boost their costs and push back the age for collecting benefits.
It’s all to help save the state money on retirement programs. The governor says the state is $19 billion short when it comes to fully funding the program.
“These changes we believe will make our retirement programs more affordable, more secure, and fair to both taxpayers and state employees,” Governor Jindal, explained.
Lawmakers are set to look over the proposed changes when the session starts in March.
