Police Chief Charles Mondrick Takes Precautions

Thursday, May 12, 2011 - 6:37pm

Baton Rouge Police Chief Charles Mondrick ordered the evidence room at BRPD headquarters be moved to higher ground.
Chief Mondrick says the decision was made out of an abundance of caution.
That's because BRPD is less than a mile from the Mississippi River, and if there is flooding downtown, or a breach, officers here wouldn't have time to clear the building.
Evidence for pending court cases is stored underground, in the basement of BRPD headquarters. It would be the first place to take on water and that could compromise every court case in BRPD's jurisdiction.
