Police investigating shooting outside French Quarter bar
NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX8) -- Dana Diperna has tended bar in the French Quarter for the last 12 years. She's worried about her safety following a string of robberies and shootings in the area.
"I know a lot of other bartenders that are bringing weapons to work with them, thinking about getting their concealed weapons license," says Diperna. "You just always have to be aware of your surroundings when you're leaving work and know who's around you, what's going on."
New Orleans Police are investigating a shooting that happened outside Club Voila on Decatur Street, about 2:42 Sunday morning.
Police say a man was thrown out of the club and got into an argument with a bouncer. The man left and returned about 15 minutes later with a handgun. He shot the bouncer twice in the chest and once in the arm.
The bouncer is now out of the hospital. Police are still looking for the suspect.
"We really don't have a name to go on yet," says Sgt. Nicholas Gernon. "We're really asking the public's help if they saw anything, maybe a vehicle fleeing, a license plate, maybe they know the individual that was involved, if they could call Crimestoppers and give us that information."
Police are also looking at surveillance video from nearby businesses.
"Around 2:40 or so, our cameras actually caught some of the action as people were fleeing from the Club Voila up Bienville towards North Peters," says Osman Rodas, general manager of Felipe's Taqueria next to Club Voila.
If you have any information, call Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111.
