PORT ALLEN, LA — On Tuesday, May 1, Port Allen Police Officers responded to a report of a Burglary in Progress in 600 block of Maryland Ave. Deputies from the WBR Sheriff’s Office also responded to assist in this incident.

Upon arrival, officers were advised by the victim that as he arrived at the residence, he exited his vehicle and began to walk towards the rear entrance of the house. As he rounded the corner, towards the rear door, he witnessed a Black Male running from the rear of the residence and through a hole in the wooden fence, which surrounds the backyard.

Tyrone Thomas Jr., 18 of Port Allen, was arrested and booked into the WBR Detention Center on one count of Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and one count of Simple Criminal Damage to Property.

Our Department has seen an increase in Residential Burglaries within the last few weeks. We urge our citizens to be mindful of their property and their neighbors’ property. Record all serial numbers from electronics, computers and firearms and keep this information in a secure place, away from the items. Remove all mail from mailboxes and if you go out of town, make arrangements with family to remove your mail. Please report any suspicious activity that you may witness.

The investigations into the numerous burglaries continue and we expect additional arrests in these matters. You can call the Port Allen Police Department at (225) 343-5525 or email at crimetips@portallen.org.
