President Obama is speaking Wednesday, June 22nd to unveil his plan to start bringing U.S. troops home from Afghanistan.
The plan is the first step toward ending a decade-long war that has become increasingly unpopular in the U.S.
Obama is expected to make a televised address at 8pm eastern time, unveiling a plan that may include the withdrawal by year's end of a third of the 30-thousand troops he sent to Afghanistan in 2010.
The announcement comes after weeks of speculation about the future of U.S. involvement in Afghanistan.
Last week, General David Petraeus discussed with the President several options for drawing down some of the 100-thousand U.S. soldiers there starting in July.
President Obama's supporters say he is seeking to rein in government spending on the war and curtail American casualties, without endangering the gains the military has made across southern Afghanistan.
