BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) — Reported sightings in Louisiana of a man accused of raping a young Colorado girl, didn't work out. That's according to authorities, who were looking into surveillance video of a man stealing a purse at a New Iberia bar. That video was posted on Facebook by a New Iberia man. Shortly after his post, he started receiving nationwide attention.

All Walter Derouen wanted to do was catch the guy who stole his girlfriend's purse from Rockin' Whiskey Saloon, so he posted surveillance video of the purse snatching on his Facebook page. He started getting calls from his friends, worried that the man in the video could be Bret Lee Luckett Thompson. He's wanted in Colorado for allegedly kidnapping and raping an eight-year-old girl.

That's when Derouen started getting phone calls from the police, the sheriff's department, and even the FBI. Police reviewed the tape and said the man in the video did bear an uncanny resemblence to Thompson.

The video spread quickly. Derouen says by Monday, it was being watch all over the nation. Wednesday, FOX44 News learned that the purse snatcher caught on camera is not Thompson. Police say he is still on the run and they will keep looking.

Derouen says he still wants to catch the guy who stole his girlfriend's purse.
