Rash of vehicle burglaries in Donaldsonville
DONALDSONVILLE, LA — Twelve vehicles in Donaldsonville were burglarized in mid-January during the nighttime hours and are currently under investigation. The break ins occurred in the areas of Reynaud Drive, Belle Alliance Drive, Ashland Street and McManor Circle. Except for one, all of the vehicles that were entered were left unlocked.
Items such as a GPS, purse, vehicle registration, vehicle insurance paperwork, currency and loose change were stolen. Residents are asked not to leave their valuables in their vehicle, specifically not in plain view. In addition, residents are encouraged to lock their vehicles.
Detectives are actively investigating the case and in addition, a neighborhood meeting was held and Sheriff’s Office personnel presented information on crime prevention in general and reminded everyone that approximately 95 percent of vehicles that are burglarized are found to have been left unlocked.
“I strongly suggest that if you don’t want to be a victim of a car burglary, you should take the simple step of removing valuables from your vehicle and them make absolutely certain to keep in locked at all time,” Bacala said.
