Research team recommends better ethics laws

BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — A Louisiana research team wants to make ethics laws in the Bayou State better.

The Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana released a report today, Tuesday, March 27, making 14 recommendations to “clear up" some of the rules surrounding ethics in the state. The goal is to make the laws easier to understand and enforce.

One of the major issues addressed in the report is personal campaign finance funds.

PAR representatives say right now the definition of how to handle campaign money isn't strict enough.

"I think the point is if you're using campaign finance funds for your own personal material goods or if you're using them just to enrich yourself, then really the campaign finance donation you're getting is nothing more than a gift," Robert Travis Scott, Public Affairs Research Council President, explained.
