Shrimping season opens

Monday, May 23, 2011 - 6:27pm

Shrimping season opened on May 23rd, and things are looking positive.
Less than one percent of state waters are still closed due to the BP oil spill.
Those areas are located in the Barataria Bay area where oil is still being collected along the shoreline.
The Department of Wildlife and Fisheries tells us, over 15 hundred tests have been done on shrimp to make sure it's clean for harvest.
As for flooding, no areas have been restricted for shrimping, but two oyster harvesting areas have been shut down.
