A 73-year old man survives a plane crash in Lafayette. It happened near a Country Club Sunday, Sept. 25 in the early morning.

According to reports, the plane was having mechanical problems after it took off. We're told the pilot, Don Johnson, was trying to bring the plane back to Lafayette's airport, but didn't make it.

Gene Fortier was playing golf at the time of the crash. He described the loud booming noise the crash made, and says his first reaction was “hopefully the pilot is okay.”

Johnson made it through the crash without injury. We’re told he’s currently resting and recovering at his home.
