Southern University and UNO merger one step closer

Wednesday, March 16, 2011 - 1:11pm

BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) - Southern University's New Orleans campus will be merged with the University of New Orleans if the Board of Regents pass a proposed bill in the Louisiana Congress.

The merger would rename Southern’s campus the University of Greater New Orleans; the board passed the merger with a 9-6 majority.

The Regents' plan will still have to be approved by the Louisiana Legislature in a two-thirds majority vote in April.

Even though it will be a singular university, the two units would have separate accreditation, admission standards, and faculty governance.

Dr. Ronald Mason, the President of the Southern University system, says this merger will cause Southern University to lose its identity in New Orleans.

Saving Our Schools and Our Heritage
Superintendent Ed Cancienne and the school board members who support him in this conspiracy to destroy the surrounding communities have been trying to shut down White Castle High; for the sole purpose of control; the old divide and conquer plan. Cancienne is not right for our school system. He and his supporters could care less about the children. Schools in the communities help children to be proud of themselves and their accomplishments.
