BATON ROUGE, La (FOX44) - Teachers at Southern University could be forced into furloughs.
That's because the school is trying to find a way to plug a near-million dollar budget deficit.
The furloughs, which are just a proposal as of July 26th, could impact all teachers on the Baton Rouge campus.
The head of the student government on the bluff is in favor of the plan.
He says if done the right way the furloughs could preserve the quality of education.
In a statement, Southern's Chancellor says “Asking for furloughs is a last resort, but it's something that's necessary when cutting the budget.”
Final plans will be made later this month.
