Spivery out as Southern's basketball coach
BATON ROUGE (FOX44) - Rob Spivery’s six year run as head coach of the Southern University Men's basketball team will come to an end April 21. Though the news was broke to the media April 1, Spivery was notified by SU Chancellor Kofi Lomotey on March 18.
Spivery took the Jaguars to the NCAA tournament in his first year at the school in 2005-06. But the past three seasons have been dismal.
Southern went 8-23 in 2008-09, 5-25 in 2009-10 and 4-26 last season, each record the worst in school history.
Spivery has $125,000 remaining on his contract and has an option to appeal the decision to the Athletics Committee of the Southern University Board of Supervisors.
