SAINT HELENA PARISH, La (WVLA) -- The state's top education officials think the Saint Helena school system is in serious trouble. That's why BESE voted to refer all money problems in the parish to the attorney general, state treasurer, and legislative auditor.

Officials expressed concern that the schools will run out of money by the end of the 2011, 12 school year. You'll recall, Saint Helena school officials have been in and out of court over the summer, trying to find a way to fix their crumbling system.

Officials say the next step will be to hold a public meeting in the parish. The results of that meeting could determine whether or not the state needs to appoint a fiscal adminstrator to the parish.
