LOUISIANA (FOX44) - It won't be long before State Police turn to a new and improved system to keep you up to date during emergencies.
The agency is moving to a system called “Nixle”.
It uses emails and text messages to keep people informed.
The system is already used in five other states.
It can let you know about everything from road closures to amber alerts.
State Police say the system is especially effective during widespread power outages, like the Capital City saw with Hurricane Gustav.
