LAKE CHARLES, LA (FOX44) - The suspect in this week's double shooting on Cherry Street has died in a local hospital. Lake Charles Police confirm that Felton Watson, 29, died Saturday, March 10. Chief Don Dixon said they believe the cause of death will show it to be drug-related, however, they are waiting on the final report from the Calcasieu Coroner's Office.
Watson is accused of shooting three people on Tuesday, March 6 at around 3:00 p.m. on North Cherry Street. One victim, Joshua Dominic Frank, 27, of Lake Charles died as a result of those injuries. The other two victims were treated at a local hospital.
Police say Watson fled the scene and carjacked another victim, who was also treated at a local hospital for injuries. The vehicle was later discovered at a Walgreens.
Officers tracked Watson to the Howard Johnson Express Motel located on Broad Street. Negotiators attempted to coax Watson out of his hotel room; the stand off lasted around three hours.
Watson eventually evacuated the hotel room after the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team deployed tear gas.
Eventually, Watson was arrested and transported to the LCPD Detective Division for processing.
Reports say that Watson began to have seizures and convulsions while speaking with homicide investigators. He told investigators that he had taken a large amount of illegal drugs during the three hour stand off.
Watson was transported by Acadian Ambulance to a local hospital.
