IBBERVILLE, LA — Today, Friday, March 9, troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop A investigated a two vehicle crash on LA Highway 411 south of Slacks Bridge which claimed the life of a Maringouin teen. It happened around 9:16 this morning.
According to investigating troopers say Courtlyn M. Bonaventure, 19, of Maringouin, was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Cobalt south on LA Highway 411 approaching a left curve. A 2007 Cadillac DTS, driven by Kimball of Rosedale, 86, was traveling north on LA Highway 411 approaching the curve.
As Bonaventure entered the curve, she lost control of her vehicle which began to rotate as it crossed the centerline into the path of Kimball’s vehicle. Kimball’s vehicle struck the right side of Bonaventure’s vehicle.
Bonaventure died as a result of her injuries sustained in the crash. She was pronounced dead by the Ibberville Parish Coroner.
Kimball was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Troopers do not suspect either driver was impaired at the time of the crash; however, routine toxicology samples were obtained and have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
During their investigation, troopers indicated the roadway was wet and it was raining when the crash occurred. Troopers want to remind drivers that state law requires them to reduce their speed during times of inclement weather. The law also requires that vehicles headlights are on during these times as well.
