TAMPA, Fl (FOX44) - Police have arrested an expelled high school teenager for allegedly plotting to blow up his high school in Tampa on the first day of class. Jared Cano, 17, made a first court appearance on August 17, 2011.
Cano was arrested Tuesday night after police say an informer told them about the plan to cause "a potentially catastrophic event" at Freedom High School.
During a search of the boy's home, police say they found what they call a manifesto with drawings of school rooms inside.
Cano was expelled from Freedom High School in 2009 for inappropriate behavior, but the school system would not elaborate. The teen has also been arrested in the past on charges that included burglary, carrying a concealed weapon, and drug possession.
