BATON ROUGE, La (WGMB) - Tests done at LSU show the substance found offshore over the weekend wasn't oil.
Dr. Ed Overton says the orange substance was just algae bloom. He says it's something common this time of year. But since people all along the coast are on high alert, the concern is understandable.
Overton goes on to say it's very important to test every suspicious spot for the presence of oil. He says "... for the public good for the good of the louisiana seafood and harvest - we need to make certain there's no oil in areas where people are catching fish - so every sight should be checked."
The bloom was found by the Coast Guard at the mouth of the Mississippi. Samples were sent to the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries - then to LSU.
