Tiger woes will not deter plans for season opener block party

BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) -- The drama over the Shady's bar fight isn't going to prevent tiger fans from heading to Dallas. Rather, Tiger Country is going to pack the streets in the Lone Star State to show support for its flagship team.

“When we travel, we take over the city,” Ryan Maranto said with a laugh when explaining the plan for the coming weekend.

Maranto is just one of many who signed up to be a part of a massive block party that’s planned for Saturday, Sept. 3. The party is planned to happen on McKinney Street.

“We chose to have it there because McKinney Street is the epicenter of nightlife in Dallas,” Maranto explained.

From corporate sponsors to national touring artists to serve as entertainment, the block party expects to fulfill all of the creature comforts that Tigers are used to having while tailgating.

“The thrill of having everyone together is what is so important,” Maranto said when explaining why the idea was first formed.

Organizers anticipate a turnout between 3-5 thousand for the big day. When asked if they feared a lower turn out due to the arrests of Jordan Jefferson and Josh Johns, Maranto says it should make no difference to true fans.

“I’m a firm believer in the saying ‘Once a Tiger fan, always a Tiger fan,” he said with a smile. “These guys are not coming to support just one person or two people. They’re coming to support a team, and that’s what this is all about.”
