LAKE CHARLES, LA — On May 21, an officer stopped a vehicle on I-10 eastbound near mile marker 21 for a traffic violation.

Hieu Xuan Ngo, 51, claimed to be traveling from California to North Carolina via Houston, TX.

During the traffic stop, the officers smelled the odor of raw marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. The officer let his K9 sniff around, and she positively responded to a controlled substance being in the vehicle.

A search of the trunk revealed around 30 pounds of high-grade marijuana known as “hydro” in the trunk, with a street value of around $156,000.

The marijuana was packaged in two large black trash bags and a white trash bag that was hidden in a bag containing Ngo’s clothes. The marijuana was packaged in 28 vacuum sealed clear plastic bags.

Ngo was booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center for possession of CDS I (marijuana) with the Intent to Distribute.
