Two dead, six wounded in three shootings in St. Roch
NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX8) -- Police are investigating three shootings Sunday evening that killed two people and wounded six others in the St. Roch area.
Officers rushed to the scene of a shooting at Almonaster Avenue and N. Miro Street around 4:58 p.m. An NOPD spokeswoman says there was a large group of people gathered outside when a person in a white truck, possibly a Dodge Dakota, drove up and opened fire. A 23-year-old man and three young children were hit by gunfire.
The man died as a result of his wounds. The children are in stable condition at a local hospital with non-life-threatening wounds. "A 2-year-old girl suffered a graze wound to the head, a 6-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the arm and a 7-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the wrist," read a news release from NOPD late Sunday night.
It's not clear whether the children are siblings but police confirm that they are related to each other, though not to the man who was killed.
The assailant struck king a dark-colored Chevy Camaro as he fired his weapon, and fled the scene heading north toward Gentilly. Officers are still looking for that suspect.
Around 5:23 p.m., police responded to another shooting in the 1500 block of Mandeville Street. A resident in the neighborhood heard gunshots, looked out and saw the victim, a 16-year-old boy, lying in the street.
Officers arrived and found the victim with several gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later.
Then, around 8:45 Sunday night, police responded to a third shooting in St. Roch, in the 1500 block of Music Street. Police tell FOX 8 that three men were shot there.
They were able to flee the shooting scene by car, but stopped around the corner on N. Derbigny Street. Two victims were picked up by emergency medical responders there, while the third was found in the 1800 block of Painters Street.
One of the men is in critical condition with several gunshot wounds in his back. The second victim was also shot several times, but he is in stable condition. The third man is in stable condition with a shoulder wound.
Police cordoned off a wide area around the shooting scene on Music Street as they searched for the gunman or gunmen. We still have little information on the shooting suspects at this point.
