Two hospitalized in Watson after a drive-by shooting
LPSO: Shooter had just bonded out of prison
WATSON, La (WGMB)--A drive-by shooting sent a Pine Grove couple to the hospital Tuesday afternoon.
It happened on Renninger Road in Watson.
Livingston Parish Sheriff's deputies say, Melvin Lee Sibley was driving his pick-up truck when he pulled up alongside his estranged wife, Tabitha, and fired at her.
The bullet went through her car and into her torso.
Tabitha sped off and was able to call police a friend's home.
Deputies say, Melvin chased after her, but he was driving so fast, he hit a culvert and flipped his truck on the way.
"We recovered a shot gun that was in the ditch behind me stuck in the ground that was apparently the gun used to shoot her," said Perry Rushing, LPSO. "He's in our custody while he's being treated at a local Baton Rouge hospital."
The couple's injuries are not life threatening.
Melvin is charged with attemped first degree murder.
Deputies say, he had recently bonded out of jail for an aggravated rape charge against Tabitha. .
