Two more companies take up residence at Celtic Media Center
Possible expansion being considered
BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) -- The Celtic Media Center continues to grow, so when it comes to a possible future expansion, people working there say it’s not a matter of if, but when.
“We are definitely reaching the point where we are 100 percent booked with permanent spaces,” Patrick Mulhearn, director of studio operations for Celtic, said about the current base of operations. “We are looking off the lot and considering next steps.”
Over thirty agencies that cater to various aspects of film production already hold spots at the massive studio located off of Bluebonnet Blvd. Two new additions, Active Entertainment and Cineworks, took up residence within the past month.
“The fact that Louisiana made it out of the summer legislative session without anything being done to the tax credits shows the industry that Louisiana is here to stay,” Mulhearn explained. “I think the industry can’t get here fast enough.”
Active Entertainment knows all too well the benefits of operating out of the Bayou State. The production company has worked here exclusively for a couple of years already filming made-for-TV movies for the SyFy Channel.
“I think it just made sense for them,” Mulhearn said when asked why Active Entertainment chose a permanent base after filming here for so long. “They area using locations in the Baton Rouge, Lafayette and New Orleans areas, so Baton Rouge is the spot that’s central between them.”
Cineworks, on the other hand, already had a central office based out of New Orleans. The addition of the post production company at the Celtic Media Center will be a key ingredient to drive yet even more work toward Baton Rouge.
“They have extreme capabilities,” Mulhearn explained. “For example, they do digital dailies. What they can do is show you exactly what it is that the camera is catching so that the director can see what’s going on…it’s cutting edge technology.”
By continually adding more companies such as Cineworks, the Celtic Media Center is proving that when it comes to the film industry, they have almost everything anyone can need all in one house.
“It’s almost like a mini mall for film making.”
