Two wounded in French Quarter shooting
NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX8) -- Two people are wounded after a shooting Tuesday evening on the outskirts of the French Quarter, not far from Mardi Gras celebrations.
It happened around 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Canal and Rampart Streets. Police say two males, ages unknown, were shot but their wounds are not considered life-threatening.
Officers with NOPD's Special Operations Unit discovered the first victim at the shooting scene, while the second was able to run a short distance to the intersection of Rampart and Iberville, from where he too was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Just after the shooting occurred, mounted patrol officers spotted two juveniles running from the vicinity of the shooting down Rampart, away from Canal. The officers say one of the kids tossed away a gun before they were apprehended.
NOPD has not concluded that the two juveniles are suspects in the attack, but they were still in custody at last report while investigators try to piece together what happened.
