UPDATE: Man arrested for shots fired at BRPD officer

THIS IS AN FOX44 NEWS UPDATE: A suspect has been arrested in connection with the BRPD Officer that was shot late last night.

Michael Anthony Joseph, 41, of Baton Rouge was arrested at his residence a short time ago and will be booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison charged with Attempted First Degree Murder of a Peace Officer, Illegal Use of a Dangerous Weapon and Possession of a Firearm with an Obliterated Serial Number. Joseph was quickly developed as a suspect due to tips from the community and evidence discovered during the investigation.

One of the bullets fired by the suspect did strike the officer in the chest, but he was wearing body armor and was not injured, although his wireless lapel microphone was destroyed. The officer did return fire but the suspect was not hit. The suspect’s weapon was recovered.

The officer involved is 29 years old and a four year veteran assigned to the Patrol Division.

BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — A Baton Rouge Police Department officer was not injured, however someone shot at him several times in the 3700 Block of Sycamore Street.

A BRPD spokeswoman says some of the officer's equipment was damaged as a result of the gunfire. The man who shot at the police officer is descriped as black, approximately 6'2" tall, with a dark compexion. We're told he has a medium build and shot hair. He was wearing a black shirt and dark blue or black jeans.

We're told this all happened just before midnight, Wednesday.

The BRPD Violent Crimes Unit is currently investigating, and they're searching for the man in North Baton Rouge. The man who shot at the police officer is considered armed and dangerous. Louisiana State Police are currently assisting BRPD with this investigation.
