Victim of armed robbery arrested for participating in drug deal
LAKE CHARLES, LA — On Saturday, April 21, Officers with the Lake Charles Police Department were dispatched to 4254 5th Ave in reference to an armed robbery. Officers met with the victim, Matthew Leblanc, who advised that he had pulled into the parking lot of 4254 5th Ave to finish eating his cheeseburger, when he was approached by an unknown man armed with a firearm.
The victim says that the man forced his way into his vehicle and robbed him of his money and his clothing. The victim chased the suspect and began fighting with him, when a second man approached and pointed a handgun at Leblanc, ordering him to leave the area.
Officers were able to locate the second suspect, Derrick Withers, who was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm.
During the investigation, Detectives L McCullough and F Fondel learned that the victim had lied about the circumstances surrounding the robbery. Detectives learned that in fact he had traveled to 4254 5th Ave with another subject to complete a drug transaction. The investigation revealed that during the drug transaction a robbery did take place.
At this time, Detectives are currently searching for the man that was involved in the drug transaction and robbery of the victim, Matthew Leblanc.
On Friday, April 27, 2012, Matthew Leblanc was arrested for Filing a False Public Record and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center with a $2500.00 dolllar bond.
The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion, short gray hair, 5'5" to 5"6", 160lbs, medium build, wearing a white t-shirt, gray sweatpants, yellow diamonds in both ears, silver cross necklace, and possibly a gold grill.
