Vilma files lawsuit against NFL commissioner Roger Goodell
NEW ORLEANS, LA (FOX44) — Saints linebacker Jonathan Vilma is suing NFL commissioner Roger Goodell.
Thursday, Vilma filed a defamation lawsuit claiming Goodell made false statements about his involvement with the Saints bounty program.
The 16-page lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in New Orleans. Goodell has said that Vilma was the leader of the team’s bounty program that paid players to injure the opposition.
Goodell recently suspended Vilma for the entire season. Vilma is currently appealing the punishment, denying his involvement in the program.
His lawsuit asks for monetary damages.
On his Twitter feed Vilma says, “As I’ve said before…I NEVER PAID, NOR INTENDED TO PAY ANY AMOUNT OF MONEY, TO ANY PLAYER FOR INTENTIONALLY HURTING AN OPPONENT.”
He then followed that tweet with another saying, “maybe this will get some people[s] attention.”
