Watson residents react to domestic violence
Woman critically injured in domestic dispute
WATSON, La (Fox44-Baton Rouge) -- In Watson, a domestic dispute turned dangerous last night forcing neighbors to come to the rescue.
According to deputies in Livingston Parish, 46-year-old David Duby got into an argument with his wife, Linda, outside of a friend's home in Watson. They say he fired at least two shots into the air before climbing into his SUV and running over the group of people standing in the yard.
His wife was trapped underneath the SUV, so neighbors ran to help. "Everybody in the neighborhood was out here trying to find a jack or something to lift the car off the lady," says bystander John Nedohin.
Neighbors were shocked by the incident. They say that area is normally very safe. "This is way out of the norm for anything that occurs in this subdivision."
While the violence doesn't make them feel any less safe, they do say they don't want to see another incident like this one. "When something like this does occur, we want to get rid of the problem, not chase us out," says neighbor Les Champagne.
Three of the four victims hit are in critical condition. Duby is locked up in the Livingston Parish Detention Center on several charges, including four counts of attempted first degree murder.
