PRAIRIEVILLE, La (FOX44) — Detectives with the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office are trying to find out what caused a woman's death along Highway 42 near Prairieville.
The Sheriff's Office says a driver saw Melissa Nicole Barrilleaux, 26, on the side of the road and tried to help her. Officials say that the motorist said Barrilleaux faintly asked for “help,” then took several faint breaths and stopped breathing. Paramedics arrived on scene and tried to revive her. However, she was pronounced dead upon arrival at the Hospital.
The incident happened on Saturday, Sept. 3 near the Old Galvez Town Trailer Park. The Ascension Parish Coroner is trying to determine the cause of death. A preliminary investigation reveals that she was heavily intoxicated at the time of her death.
Detectives say Barrilleaux’s family told them she was taking pills and drinking alcohol the night she died.
The case is still under investigation.
