BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) — The Baton Rouge Police Department adopted an entire school for the first time this year.

They brought gifts for all of the 200 students at Polk Elementary school, and ten of them even got bikes.

The money to buy the toys was raised throughout the year by the police department.

"These police officers are bringing these toys to these kids so they can see police officers in a different light,” Chief Dewayne White, explained. “Not just someone of authority, but someone who cares and is giving something back to them and I believe and want that interaction because I believe it will not only help the community but help us serve the community better."

And there were some extra guests at the party today. Students got a chance to meet some “local” reindeer.
