Tickets to one of the most electric shows of the year will go on sale tomorrow and those who attend could be a small part of helping to break a Guinness World Record.

The Flaming Lips, an American alternative rock bank, will perform at The Varsity Theatre on Thursday, June 28. The show will be part of the world’s first 24-hour awards show.

How does this work?

The Flaming Lips will attempt to perform eight shows within 24-hours with the stop in Baton Rouge being the second to last stop. The band will travel by tour bus from Memphis to Mississippi to Florida and then finally to Louisiana.

Why go on this crazy adventure?

It’s all part of Viacom Music Group’s attempt to draw attention to the O Music Awards. But this isn’t your typical “awards show.” Rather, this online endeavor hopes to break a Guinness World Record for the most live concerts in multiple cities within 24-hours. The entire experience will be streamed live online.

The Flaming Lips are known for putting on an enigmatic live show that is typically a full scale production with props. No word has been given whether the band plans to scale back its production during the 8-city run.

Performing alongside The Flaming Lips will be the Louisiana-based band Givers, who have gained a strong national reputation.

Tickets for the show are $20 and will go on sale beginning on Friday, June 8 at 10:00 a.m. Tickets can be purchased online by clicking here, or can be purchased at The Chimes Restaurant located on Highland Road.
