BATON ROUGE, LA (FOX44) -- Local skateboards have a big weekend ahead and it all begins tomorrow in downtown Baton Rouge.
Heartthrob Skateboards is hosting a high flying anniversary party at Red Star Bar Friday night.
Chris Culotta built the brand from the ground up. For the past three years he’s trucked his line across the state. Now his product is featured in skate shops all over.
Tomorrow, local DJ's will help celebrate the three year mile stone.
Then, the party continues Saturday with two skate park events.
The first is in Gonzales for the opening of its first skate park. That was originally scheduled to happen last weekend, but got shut down due to bad weather.
Then, the fun times will roll on over in Baton Rouge at the BREC Skate Park on Perkins Road.
As a Baton Rouge-native and long time skateboarder, Cullota says this weekend is a big win for the community.
“A lot of people are starting to jump on ship and it's creating more safe environments for kids to come out and skate,” he explained. “A lot of people are happy with that and it gives parents and kids something to do on the weekends and weekdays."
The skate park grand opening in Gonzales will begin at noon. There will be some competition events as well as other activities.
Then, the continued Heartthrob anniversary bash in Baton Rouge will kick off at 5:00 p.m. Local musicians will perform, and there will be live art painting as well as competition events.
