Louisiana Voters React to Obama's Victory

By Kianga Kelley

What do young Louisiana voters have to say about Obama's victory?  Fox 44's Kianga Kelley spoke with some young Louisiana voters and it's clear they are proud of how far their country has come.

Happy seems to be the mood of many young voters the day after America decided it was time for change, the biggest political change the country has ever witnessed, and the election of an African-American man as President of the United States.

Karla Washington, a Southern University sophomore said, "I believe that Barack Obama, black, white, or any race, will bring our country to a higher height."

LSU freshman Michelle Colon agreed, "I am very excited and anxious to see what changes he's going to bring."

But not everyone is excited about this historic outcome.  LSU freshman, Kaelin Hipes, says although she's proud to see Obama win, it's obvious it will take time for the nation to come together.

"I have a lot of friends that are disappointed and they are saying things they probably shouldn't say."

When it comes to McCain, some voters believe he was a good candidate for the past.

Amber Perry, a senior at Southern University, said, "I think 8 years ago McCain was the choice, but 8 years later he's just not the choice.  People are tired of the Republican Party and no matter if he would've been good or bad for the country, he's still tacked on to the title as Republican."

The students also say that last night was proof their voices are strong and the key to our nation's future.
