Surveying truckers on bridge driving rules
LSU engineers are surveying truckers about the driving conditions on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
They are assessing the effectiveness of a decreased speed limit and right-lane-only restriction for trucks on the bridge.
Seven years ago, the DOTD put the speed limit for big rigs on the bridge at 55 miles per hour, after one slammed into stopped traffic. Five people were killed.
Researchers surveyed thousands of truckers to find out if they think the road is safe since the changes have been in place
