We've all heard about the recent rash of violence in Baton Rouge. Today, the police chief says he hopes to combat some of the crime by putting more officers on the streets.

34 new police academy recruits showed up for training this morning. Baton Rouge Police say the group was chosen from a pool of more than 200 applicants.

The recruits will go through a rigorous 21 weeks of training before they're allowed to hit the streets with veteran officers. Chief Jeff Leduff says that he hopes to continue a downturn in crime with the new addition.
