Driving in Louisiana comes with a price, and today the price went up 70%.

License fees for class "D" and "E" drivers now cost $36.50.

That's up $15.00.

The extra money covers a fee for the National Driver Registry—a federal program that provides driver history to Motor Vehicle offices nation wide.

The state has covered the cost of the fee for the past two years, but budget cuts are forcing the fee on to Louisiana drivers.
