Hammond's Hottest Talent Singing Competition

Open Call to Amateur Singers.

Friday, May 14, 2010 - 4:00pm

The Hammond Downtown Development District has an open call for all amateur singers, 18 and older, to sign up for a singing competition. The 2010 Hammond’s Hottest Talent competition is a series of singing contests in which Round 1 will be held during three of the First Friday - Take It to the Tracks block parties in Downtown Hammond, and the Final Round will be held on the La Carreta stage during Hot August Night on Friday, August 20, 2010. As long as space is available, the organization will continue to register singers for the summer-time competition through July 30, 2010. Contestants should only sign up for one of the three contests in Round 1, and must be available to compete on August 20 if they become a finalist. Contestants must be amateurs, which is defined as anyone without a recording contract. The registration form and an instrumental music track to sing along to must be submitted to the Downtown Development District at least one week prior to competition. Contestants will be allowed to play an instrument rather than providing a music track. However, the instrument must be played by the contestant, and no other person will be allowed on stage during performances. Round 1 of the Hammond’s Hottest Talent competition will kick off each First Friday – Take It to the Tracks block party which features live music by great local bands, a classic car showcase as well as food and craft vendors. Hammond’s Hottest Talent contestants will take the stage on North Cate Street across from Cate Street Pub at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, June 4; July 2 and August 6. The winners from each contest in Round 1 will be chosen by the audience and will proceed to the Final Round. The two contestants that receive the most cheers at the end of each contest will become finalists. During the Final Round, each finalist will perform before an audience and a panel of judges. The judges will vote to decide who will be named “Hammond’s Hottest Talent” for 2010 and receive the First Guaranty Bank prize pack, $1,000 in cash and prizes. Any business owner that would like to hold a karaoke or singing competition may send their winners to the Hammond’s Hottest Talent contest and receive recognition for their business during the contest. Sponsorship opportunities for any Hammond-area business are available.
