Two Baton Rouge schools found a way to make sure students succeed, despite a huge challenge.
McKinley Middle Magnet and Glasgow Middle School have a high number of students living in poverty. However, the youngsters are doing well in class.
School officials say there are different ways they get their kids to make the grade. Teachers provide extra tutoring. They also give up their planning period for kids who need extra help.
Teachers also hand out candy and other sweets for a job well done.
The principal of Glasgow Middle School says by providing positive student-teacher interaction she has no doubt student's scores will go up by the end of the year.
