Judge Seeber Bridge update
DOTD has scheduled a total nighttime closure to vehicle traffic on the Judge Seeber Bridge (LA 39), Monday, June 7, 2010 through Friday June 11, 2010 and Monday, June 14, 2010 through Wednesday, June 16, 2010 from 9 pm – 6 am each night for additional rehabilitation work and testing of the new system. In an effort to limit the potential traffic issues to the travelling public, DOTD is limiting these necessary closures to late night and early morning before and after peak traffic hours. Additionally, construction crews will remain in contact with emergency personnel and can open the bridge quickly should emergency vehicles need to access the other side of the canal. The purpose of these closures is to adjust and install the span locks which are the wedges that keep the bridge in alignment and address any problems that develop during the testing phase. Many of these test and adjustments are in anticipation of hurricane season to ensure the bridge is secure against potential high winds. Additional scheduled closures for this project include: · In approximately 2 to 3 weeks; 1 or 2 nights (9 pm – 6 am) to work on the operator’s house. · Near the end of hurricane season, approximately October/November; 6 - 8 week closure to replace the bridge decking and beams. These are the only scheduled closures at this time. However, if the need arises for more tests, DOTD would send a notice to the e-mail group and the media. Detour – St. Claude LA 46. DOTD appreciates your patience and reminds you to please drive with caution through the construction/maintenance site and be on the lookout for work crews and their equipment.
