LA National Guardsmen heading to Afghanistan
Troops leaving for training next week
Members of the Louisiana National Guard left for training in Georgia this afternoon.
Friends and family said goodbye to seven soldiers of the 204th Threater Airfield Operations group.
They will be stationed in Afghanistan for one year where they will help to combat improvised explosive devices.
The going away ceremony took place in Hammond this afternoon.
They're the first group of Louisiana National Guardsmen to deploy to Afghanistan since the troop surge announcement.
