Stars Steve Carell and Julie Andrews took turns talking to the press at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles Sunday.

Carell is the voice of Gru, an evil super villain, planning the biggest heist in history... when he and his little minions attempt to steal the moon.

The plan all starts to unravel when Gru encounters a few orphans looking for a family.

Steve Carell says: "Well the animation itself is a little bit different. It's this French animation team that when I, when I saw the first images I thought this is art. I, I this was something I would frame and hang on my wall and the story. I think it's a really sweet, kind, simple story about family and lot of excitement, lot of action and adventure and it's the first animated film that I know of that, that the protagonist is a super-villain."

Julie Andrews says: "Well it's very original. It's, it's quite a unique movie. First of all it looks very unique. It's rather a unique story. I don't think I've ever seen a movie where your hero who is a terrible villain wants to go and steal the moon and then I play his absolutely ghastly mum. Everybody in the movie is a villain except for three wonderful little orphans who melt, melt our hearts."

"Despicable Me" opens in theaters nationwide July 9th.
