State Police training academy postponed
Officials blame budget cuts
About 40 vacant jobs with the Louisiana State Police will remain open next year.
The academy was set to start the training for those positions this coming February, but mid-year budget cuts are forcing officials to postpone.
The department relies on revenue from the Office of Motor Vehicles and state gaming to operate.
State Police Superintendent Mike Edmonson says, right now, the dollars aren't there.
He says, financially, the next year will be difficult for the Department of Public Safety, and some people could be layed off.
