State health officials introduced a new program to provide help for residents with long-term health care needs.

The program is a partnership between the Louisiana Department of Insurance and the Department of Health and Hospitals.

It would prevent Louisiana residents from having to use up all of their savings in order to become eligible for medicaid.

Nursing home care, adult day care and assisted living centers are all covered under the plan.

Analysts say the move will save the state and the people who need these services money.
