Patrick Ayres Student Chef

Peeling and seeding a tomato

  • Cut a small x in the back of the tomato
  • Boil for :30 seconds
  • Place in a ice bath for :5-:10 seconds
  • Peel each corner
  • Squeeze out seeds

 

Meredith Beck-Wiggins Student Chef

Hulling and freezing strawberries

  • Insert a straw into the narrow end of the strawberry until the stem pops out
  • Freeze on a cookie sheet  about an hour – or until Frozen
  • Place into a zip lock bag

Easy Pastry Shells

  • Using a pasty cutter – cut bread on a hard surface
  • Lightly baste each side with butter
  • Press into a muffin pan
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes, until lightly brown.

Pitting an avocado

  • Run knife around avocado
  • Remove half
  • Insert knife into pit and turn
  • Remove pit
  • To keep the avocado from turning black leave the pit in

Juicing a lemon

  • Take lemon in your hand a firmly roll on a cutting board.
  • Cut in Half
  • Squeeze with cut side up into a bowl.
  • Holding the lemon cut side up will reduce the number of seed in your juice.
