EBR Manhunt

Monday, April 13, 2009 - 5:57pm

The search is on for a man involved in a high speed chase earlier today in East Baton Rouge Parish. For the past several hours, police think he’s been hiding in a wooded area between Zachary and Baker.

After more than six hours of searching there is still little information about this chase. Here’s what we do know: the hunt started around noon and several law enforcement agencies from surrounding areas have chipped in to find this man.

With the sound of a helicopter hovering above, police officers search a wooded area. Police dogs and heavily armed officers plod through the brush, looking for a man they consider dangerous. Police say this all started as a simple traffic stop, but quickly turned into a massive manhunt once they realized the suspect was driving a stolen Ford Explorer. Sometime during the pursuit he ditched the truck along McHugh Road off Highway 19 between Zachary and Baker and disappeared into the woods. The suspect is described as a white male with blonde hair, wearing a dirty white t-shirt.

Police consider the man to be dangerous. They aren’t sure if he is armed, so they’re asking that people living near this area be extremely cautious. We’ll continue tracking this story as information comes in.
