Family says LA medical malpractice laws need reform

A Plaquemine family wants state lawmakers to reform the medical malpractice laws.

The Lefebrvs say a family member died from a botched gastric bypass surgery.

They spoke at a House Committee hearing to support a bill that would increase the current $500,000 malpractice compensation cap.

That amount has been in the books for 30 years and hasn't been adjusted for inflation.
