Grambling Enrollment Down

GRAMBLING, La. (AP) - Enrollment at Grambling State University is down nearly 5 percent from fall 2008. Grambling has 4,492 undergrads compared to 5,523 last fall. GSU President Horace Judson attributes the enrollment dip to two factors.
Judson said they are down slightly because of new admissions
requirements and secondly a downturn in the economy.
Grambling reported that it has lost roughly half of its international students, down from about 500 last fall to about 250 this fall.
Judson said those students, most of whom come from the Caribbean, could not afford to pay for school this fall because of a decline in tourism in their home countries, tightening their families' budgets back home.
Judson expects enrollment to pick up with improvements in the
national economy.
